Caroline´s traditional beauty draws admiring looks wherever she goes. Originally built in Holland in 1928 as a cargo carrying sailing Tjalk she is now totally transformed into a beautiful floating home for up to 6 guests with three spacious cabins (one double and two twins) each with private shower and toilet. Each cabin is different, but all are very prettily arranged with homely touches and pleasant colour co-ordination. Bathrooms are small but fresh and modern, with fittings of a high standard. In 2009 the Caroline will offer her guests idyllic cruises along the scenic Canal du Midi in southern France, between the salt lake lagoon of the Etang du Thau (known for its famous oysters), and the cultural cities of Beziers and Carcassonne. Close to the Mediterranean Sea and the historic sites of the Cathar country of Languedoc-Roussillon, the Canal du Midi has been the link between the Mediterranean and the Atlantic Seas since 1681 and is a fascinating waterway to explore. The canal has also been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996. What better way to enjoy it than aboard the Caroline where your hosts—Ute and Uli Weber—will make you feel instantly at home with their warm welcome and friendly, warm natures? On board the atmosphere is very relaxed, with a comfortable lounge and dining area and a well equipped galley (kitchen) where your cook prepares delicious meals featuring local specialities. You are always free to relax on deck and watch the picturesque French landscape glide past at a serene 3-4 miles per hour. The huge flowered sun deck is laid with a carpet and is also the best place to admire the famous oval locks as you pass through. Excursions of cultural interest are offered to you each day and it is your choice how much you wish to do during your week on board. Travel to and from places of interest are taken in the luxury barge minibus which follows the barge as you wend you way through the sunny French countryside. |
